Identification

A small goby of 4 to 6 cm, distinctively marked with double rows of dark spots along the flanks and red and blue dots on breeding males. Striped dorsal fins.

Ecology

Lives on coarse sand and gravel at 5 to 50 meters. Male guards the eggs.

In the Netherlands

Found in the North Sea, less common than the sand goby. Prefers coarser substrates.
