Identification
A very small pipefish of only 10 to 15 cm. Worm-like thin body, dark brown to green. No pectoral fins and no tail fin, making it even more worm-like.
Ecology
Lives in the intertidal zone on rocky coasts, under stones. Can survive being exposed at low tide. Male carries eggs on the belly.
In the Netherlands
Found along rocky coasts, but rare in the Netherlands due to limited natural rock substrate.
