Identification
Reaches 25 to 35 cm. Distinguished by a deep, laterally compressed snout wider than other pipefish. Greenish-brown to olive-green.
Ecology
Lives in dense seagrass beds in shallow coastal waters. More dependent on seagrass than other pipefish species. Male carries the eggs.
In the Netherlands
Found in areas with seagrass growth such as the Eastern Scheldt and Grevelingen. Locally vulnerable due to seagrass decline.
