Common questions
How do I sign in?
With Apple (on an iPhone), Google or Microsoft. On visscanner.nl you sign in with Google or Microsoft, with the same account as in the app. Did you create your account with Apple? Then you cannot sign in on the website.
What is the free trial?
Every new account gets 14 days of Specialist for free. You do not need to give any payment details. After that your account is back on Free, unless you choose a plan yourself.
Can I get Explorer for free?
Yes, if you log catches regularly. Have you logged at least 5 catches in the app from the last 30 days, caught on at least 3 different days? And does each of those catches have a checked photo that your phone confirms was taken within 2 kilometres of where you caught it (the app then shows ‘GPS confirmed’)? Then you get Explorer for free for as long as that holds. Specialist stays paid.
How do I cancel my plan?
If you bought it in the app, cancel it in the settings of the App Store or Google Play. If you took it out on visscanner.nl, cancel it there.
Who can see my catches?
A catch set to Public appears on the map without your name, no sooner than 24 hours after you caught it. It then shows only the species, the length, the number, whether it was released, the date and the place. Photos and notes always stay private. Only you can see a catch set to Private.
If you take part in the leaderboards (on by default), a public catch with a checked photo counts on the leaderboards when you were allowed to fish for that species that day. It appears there under your leaderboard name, with the species, the length or weight and the month. Such a catch is not on the map.
Your private catches also count towards your totals on the leaderboards: the number of fish, the species and the hours, also per province. Nobody sees the catch itself.
What does "Track fishing time automatically" do?
It is optional. If you turn it on, your phone notes when you arrive at the water and when you leave. Those two times are sent, and only with your catches. When you pick a photo from your gallery for a catch, the app also checks whether your phone was nearby at that moment. Of that check only this is sent: yes or no, how far (rounded to 100 metres), the time difference in minutes, and which check it was. Your routes stay on the phone and are deleted after 7 days.
How do I get my data?
In the app, under Me → Settings → Export your data. You get all your catches as a CSV file (for a spreadsheet) or a GPX file (for a map app).
Deleting your account
On the Delete your account page you can delete your account without the app too: sign in with Google or Microsoft and confirm. It also says what is deleted, what is kept and how to ask by email.
In the app: Me → Settings → Delete account. Your account, your catches and your photos are then deleted. A plan through visscanner.nl is cancelled at the same time. If your plan comes from the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there yourself.
