Identification
The reticulated dragonet is a small bottom fish (8-11 cm (maximum 18 cm)) similar to the spotted dragonet, but distinguished by a fine net-like (reticulate) pattern on the fins rather than separate spots. The head is flattened with eyes on top. Color is sandy brown with a fine, regular pattern.
Ecology
Lives on muddy and sandy bottoms at 0-110 meters depth, even deeper than the spotted dragonet. Due to its deep-water habitat, the biology of this species is poorly studied.
In the Netherlands
A rare species in the deepest parts of the North Sea. Very sporadically found as bycatch.
