Identification
A small goby of 4 to 6 cm. Characteristic two dark spots at the tail fin base. Translucent orange to yellowish-brown. Breeding males turn intense orange.
Ecology
Unlike most gobies, lives semi-pelagically: swimming above rocky bottoms and among seaweed. Lives in small groups. Feeds on plankton.
In the Netherlands
Found in coastal waters with hard substrate and seaweed. Observed in Zeeland and the Wadden Sea.
