Identification

A small goby of 4 to 6 cm, closely resembling the sand goby. Distinguished by pigment spot patterns and sensory papillae on the head. Sandy colored with faint dark spots on the flanks.

Ecology

Lives on sandy bottoms in shallow coastal water at 5 to 30 meters. Male guards eggs in a nest under a shell.

Found in the southern North Sea. Often overlooked due to resemblance to other small gobies.
