Identification
A sturdy goby of 8 to 12 cm with a broad head and characteristic thread-like chin barbels. Yellowish-brown to dark brown body with irregular dark blotches and bands.
Ecology
Native to Japan, Korea, and China. Lives in estuaries, harbors, and coastal waters with soft substrate. Tolerates a wide range of salinities.
In the Netherlands
An invasive exotic introduced via ballast water. Observations are limited. Ecological impact on native gobies remains unclear.
