Taxonomic status
Leuciscus affinis is a disputed taxon considered by many ichthyologists to be a synonym of the common dace (Leuciscus leuciscus). Historically the name was used for Central European populations, but modern genetic studies do not unambiguously support the distinction. Records in the Netherlands are typically assigned to the common dace.
